Workshop:

The workshop was split up in two parts. The first part was a writing workshop (led by Gabriele Welke), the second part consisted of creative work (led by Solveig Senft). A picture and background information on a woman who was important and works as a role model was brought by each participant. The selection ranged from famous women like Tina Turner, Doris Day, Ingeborg Bachmann or Frieda Kahlo to women from private surroundings, like mothers, sick sisters or an Irish poet friend who died at an early age. Short texts/poems on these women arose through easy methods of creative writing.
Afterwards each participant designed each side of a prefabricated piece of wood. Through selection of colours and motives, by gluing and sawing, each woman tried out to bring out the characteristics of her role woman. Also the texts were transferred. In the end all pieces were connected together by means of slits at each side and resulted thus in a “Palace of Women”. The outcome was impressive – an esteem of the role models and a successful common experience for all workshop participants.
